Bio
Truth and Dolphin
“Like Thom Yorke jamming with Leonard Cohen and Destroyer.”
– Reso Nation
Truth and Dolphin perform a style of slam poetry set to melodic folk rock. Originating in Victoria BC, their first album “Chronicles of Living Memory, Part 1” received radio play across Canadian university radio and public radio, making the top 10 for three months in Kamloops’ CFBX-FM. The band is tea merchant Jared Nyberg on vocals, visual arts painter and guitarist Steve Chmilar (former lead singer of 2000’s The Villain’s) on guitar, loop and back up vocals, and multi-instrumentalist and fellow songwriter Cory Christiansen on vocals, guitar and banjo. They are sometimes joined by Sister Speak’s Sherri Anne lending her vocals and guitar for select shows.
Bio
Thistlr
Thistle is a recording and live performing project helmed by brothers Aidan and Declan McLennan. Their father – a prolific yet unreleased singer-songwriter who once performed under the same name Thistle, serves as a direct creative influence for the brother duo today.
Blending traditional folk with classic rock and blues roots, Thistle’s music is driven by sweeping acoustic guitars and layered vocal harmonies, creating a lush and textured sound. Themes of family, loss, individuality and love recur throughout their work.
Be sure to check out their 2005 self-titled debut, a collection of seven original songs reflecting the brothers’ first year living together in Victoria, British Columbia, where they are now based. Both Aidan and Declan are students at the University of Victoria, developing their sound within the city’s dynamic rock and folk scene.
